Mi'Kmaq Cultural Centre Proposal

The proposal was to provide a cultural centre for the Mi'Kmaq Nations which would provide a setting for cultural identity and to provide a place to gather, preserve and display the material culture of a society. The projects rural site of Debert, Nova Scotia provided a sensitive and rich place where artifacts dated at over 10,000 years BCE where found. The museum portion of the building was to provide a place to gather, preserve and display the material culture of the Mi'Kmaq society and provide a setting for cultural identity. The forms of the proposal reflect traditional housing and arrangements of assemblies. The forms are manipulated to take advantage of natural wind and sun patterns to utilize operable solar and wind louvers at the apex of the form.
