Skin and Bones
2009
This work proposes an alternative to traditional pre- engineered building construction. Its aim is to provide a sustainable pre-engineered system of architecture in which site, program and form are flexible and may respond to the developing requirements of the environment, the community and the building. It draws from anatomy to investigate how anatomical joint structures might inform building structures. This pursuit is explored through organic and anatomical studies of various parts of the human body, application of these observations to a structural system and an envelope system that permit flexibility in form, scale, program and site. Integration of sustainability aspects are explored into the framework of the system by integrating leading-edge sustainable materials and application through a development of an on-site erection construction program.
